Fields of Expertise: Organic farming research programme

Dr Stephen Roderick is a research manager currently responsible for delivery of the Lottery-funded Farm Net Zero project. He is also responsible for the RBS’s role in the Interreg-funded Dairy-4-Future project and is part of the team contributing to the Agriculture Bas Carbone for Dairy farms (ABCD) project. He contributes to the Duchy College higher education programme, delivering a module on Contemporary Issues in Food and Farming.

Stephen joined the College in 2001 and was responsible for developing the RBS’s organic farming research programme. He has managed a wide portfolio of local, national and international R&D projects including the TOMS, Soil Carbon, 2 Minute Farmer and CrapAppPro elements of the Cornwall Agri-tech project, the SWARM Hub and SWHLI Knowledge Exchange projects and Farm Health Online. He has co-edited and contributed to numerous books on organic animal farming and has been external examiner of the MSc organic farming programme at SRUC, Aberdeen.

Before joining the College he was researcher and consultant at the Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics Research Unit (VEERU) at Reading University and has extensive experience of working in livestock production in Europe and Africa including an extensive period conducting research on Maasai livestock production in Kenya and teaching agriculture in Zambia. More recently, Stephen joined a team at Plymouth University to research the impact of a micro-franchised network of farm input retailers on small holder farmers in Kenya.
