Leadership & Management Programme (LAMP)

The preparation of young managers for leadership and management responsibilities within the rural sector.

The Worshipful Company of Farmers' Leadership and Management Programme (LAMP) aims to help young managers who are keen to develop their leadership and management skills and experience to benefit their business, or that of their employer. It will also assist with their personal development and contribute to the growth of the wider rural sector. The course will run from Monday 25 February to Friday 1st March, 2019 at the Keele University Management Centre in Staffordshire.

The LAMP is aimed at a wide cross-section of aspirational people, including those with few formal academic qualifications, and those who may not have attended University. By the end of the course, participants will better understand the inter-relationship between management and leadership; will have explored the theories related to leadership and management through a case study, alongside models of good practice and they will have had the opportunity to be inspired by the experiences of leaders from the rural sector.

This one-week programme will help participants to explore the principles of strategic planning as well as providing the opportunity to develop interpersonal, critical thinking and communication skills.

The LAMP objectives

  • Build confidence in developing a leadership and management role

  • Understand the principles and practice of good communication and its contribution to successful leadership

  • Develop people management skills and techniques to lead a team and/or peer group

  • Identify the importance that good leadership plays in developing a culture of success, high standards and social responsibility

  • Mentor support for one year, post-programme
